OVERVIEW OF THE SOCIETY OF POWER ENGINEERS (INDIA)
The Society of Power Engineers (India) [SPE (I)] is a non-governmental and professional body established in 1945 in New Delhi under the umbrella of the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBI&P). The Society was formed to bring together power engineers across the nation and promote technical excellence through collaboration.
The India Chapter of SPE (I) was established on 3rd October 1996, thanks to the pioneering efforts of Er. N. Dinker (then Member–Technical, Gujarat Electricity Board) along with Er. S.M. Takalkar, Er. M.M. Nayak, Er. S.M. Joshi, Er. K.S. Dave, Er. S.R. Shukla, Er. D.M. Shah, Er. M.K. Das, and others.
More than 200 engineers enrolled as members at inception, and the membership has continued to grow steadily over the years.

- Maintenance of a library and information center with resources from CBI&P, New Delhi.

- Transmission and distribution of power
- Energy conservation and efficiency
- Manufacturing and testing technologies
Academic and Industry Collaboration
- Training programs for final-year engineering students to familiarize them with industry practices.
- Seminars and site visits organized for students and teachers to enhance learning and employability.
- Activities aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and industrial applications.
- Conducting technical programs in remote areas to benefit local industries and institutions.
Organization and Governance
- Managed by an elected Executive Committee, supported by an Advisory Committee.
- Committees meet monthly to review activities, management, and financial matters.
